What is the Advanced Placement Program?
Run by College Board, AP lets high school students take college-level courses and earn real college credit before graduation. Exams are offered every May, and a score of 3, 4, or 5 is accepted at thousands of colleges worldwide. Every AP course and exam is designed through collaboration between AP teachers and college faculty.
Why take AP courses?
Earn real college credit
A score of 3 or higher earns actual college credit accepted at over 4,000 colleges and universities.
Save money on tuition
Each AP credit earned can save $1,000 or more — and may let you finish college a year early.
Strengthen your application
Colleges look for academic rigor. AP shows admissions officers you're ready for college-level work.
Build college-level skills
AP develops critical thinking, research, and writing — skills you'll use throughout college and your career.
Get ahead in your major
AP credit lets you skip intro college courses and move directly into advanced subjects that match your goals.
Discover your passion
With 31 subjects — from art to physics to economics — find what excites you before choosing a college major.
